Motivational Interviewing (MI)

( 16 hours of content + 1 hr practice call follow up)

This focuses on developing a collaborative conversation style that strengthens a person’s own motivation and commitment to change. Whether you are a home care nurse trying to help someone who is struggling with multiple chronic conditions or a Caseworker helping someone to meet their daily needs on a limited income, the core skills can be learned by anyone interested in supporting others to make changes.

This highly interactive workshop focuses on the key evidence-based attitudes, skills and strategies to effectively support behaviour change. To book a workshop we need 12-25 participants and will provide all materials, trained faculty, a light breakfast and full lunch.

By the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

  • Define Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Describe the Spirit of MI and the Four Processes
  • Recognize Change Talk and how to respond to it
  • Demonstrate the four foundational communication skills of MI
